Victims of Impunity

After the officially known Tutsi genocide of 1994 and the coming to power of Paul Kagame, hundreds of thousands of Hutu Rwandans were forced to flee their country for fear of extermination. Many of them, including children, women and the elderly, reached the former Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) on foot, where they tried to survive in inhumane conditions in the forests and refugee camps of the neighboring country. The RPF's Tutsi army invaded eastern Congo and carried out indiscriminate killings of Hutu refugees on the grounds that there were murderers or genociders among them. Some lucky ones managed to survive after walking hundreds of kilometers for years. More than two decades later, the time has come to put names and surnames to their stories and their suffering.
